In an episode of Self-Improvement Daily, the 2-minute episode covered this quote:
“If courage is taking action despite fear, then bravery is the solution to regret.”
– Brian Ford
The idea of bravery being a solution to regret resonated with me.
In particular, I thought about how we could imagine what “10-years from now” us would regret.
My Perspective
If we had a list of those potential future regrets, we might know where we needed bravery.
I then wanted to understand how bravery and courage are different.
What I found is that bravery is an action, tactical, and often tied to fear/danger.
Courage on the other hand is more about endurance, strategy, and guiding principles.
This led me to believe that I would change the statement from the podcast.
Here would be my perspective:
“To avoid regret, it takes courage to define the path and bravery to take action.”
– Lori Sullivan
When there is something we don’t want to regret, we need the courage to create a plan to avoid it.
However, a plan is not enough, we need to be brave and start taking the needed actions.
This seems like a great time for a crystal ball moment.
Spend time thinking about what we don’t want to regret.
Then, pick one, have the courage to plan, and take the first brave action to get there.
Your Turn
When looking into the crystal ball, what do you not want to regret 10-years from now?
What is the plan to get there?
What are the brave actions you will need to take?
