You know the situation.
Waiting in line.
Arriving early for an event.
Sitting through a child’s practice.
The moments where we have time open and no plan.
We tend to fill this time without intention.
Scrolling social media, listening to music, or just doing nothing.
Sometimes the activities above are perfect for the day.
They provide relaxation and relief from an otherwise overscheduled day.
However, sometimes these moments are boring.
We fill the time scrolling and doing nothing.
My Perspective
What if we had a plan for the times we aren’t relaxing, but acting out of boredom?
We could make a “boredom” list.
Here are some ideas for the list to get yours started:
Be social – Have a “call back” list to catch up with family, friends, or coworkers.
Be creative – Carry a notebook and write, draw, and doodle.
Be curious – Read, listen to a podcast, or watch a video class to learn something new.
Be reflective – Meditate, create a list of dreams, or check in on progress towards goals.
Be productive – Make a grocery list, plan your tasks for tomorrow, or respond to emails.
These are just a few ideas to fill the time.
Find the ones that are right for you.
Some may take a bit of planning to make sure you have what you need with you.
Your Turn
What do you do with your waiting time?
Do any of the ideas on the list seem interesting to try?
How will you approach your next open block of time?
