My son moved home a year ago when he graduated from college.
It’s great to have him around, BUT…..
I realized how hard food decisions become when he is back home.
When he was away at school, my husband and I would cook what we wanted when we were hungry.
With my son back home, dinner is again a meal that needs planning.
This got me thinking about how the food seasons change over the years.
Cooking for one.
Cooking for many.
And back again.
Busy times when food is a challenge to fit in.
Dining out. Dining in.
Easy meals. Complex recipes.
My Perspective
Recognizing our current food season is important.
This can help us be comfortable with our food routines.
If it’s a busy season, maybe we are OK with dining out more frequently.
When food is a challenge to fit in, we can look for grab and go foods to have around.
With my son back home, we’ve spent the last year discovering a new food season.
The way we plan meals and have food around is starting to settle in and feel right.
Sometimes I cook.
Sometimes we are all on our own.
Occasionally we switch who cooks each day.
Recognizing new seasons are coming allows us to plan for it.
Your Turn
What season is the meal season at your house?
Is your current approach working for the season you are in?
How might you shift your plan if you consider it’s “just for the season”?
