Often hopes and dreams for the future are stated with goals.

A promotion.

A larger / different house.

To start a family.

Some time to myself.

A day off.

The list could go on and on.

One question we often don’t ask is how do we want to feel?

At work.

At home.

With our family and friends.

On our own.

On vacation.

My Perspective

I believe that if we shifted to ask how we want to feel in different situations we might design different solutions than if we just stated a goal.

We could assign feelings to all kinds of things.

For example, consider how you want your calendar to feel.

There are many possibilities – open, purposeful, flexible, full.

Our answers will be different.

Knowing our intention allows us to begin to make changes over time to reach that feeling.

The project is “complete” when you achieve the feeling.

Your Turn

What area of your life do you want to change?

Instead of noting what you want to achieve, how do you want to feel?

What are some actions you can take to start to move toward that feeling?
