Personas are used as a foundation in marketing to communicate customer details.

These descriptions give the customer personality and “life”.

I was wondering if this concept could be applied as we work to design our career and life.

My idea was to use personas to articulate our vision for each of the 8 dimensions of wellbeing.

We could think of our occupational self and describe the life our ideal persona leads.

Then start asking questions… lots of questions.

What type of company do they work for?

Is it one company or multiple?

What are their day-to-day activities?

Do they go to an office, work at home, or a mix?

What is their salary?

Are their coworkers local or spread across the world?

What role does technology play in accomplishing daily tasks?

What are they wearing?

What is their favorite part of their job?

What do they like the least?

My Perspective

I think creating this persona could be easier and seem less daunting than other approaches.

Don’t focus on goals or 5-year visions.

Just create a “fictitious” person who embodies what might be difficult to articulate.

While the example above shows persona questions for occupation, this could be done in the same way for the other 7 – financial, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, social, and physical.
