With much of the year still in front of us, there are a lot of possibilities.
We aspire to make areas of our lives a little better than they were before.
One common aim is to be more present in day-to-day activities.
Not letting our lives pass us by in a blur.
“The mind is like water. When it’s turbulent, it’s difficult to see. When it’s calm, everything becomes clear.”

My Perspective
When our minds are carrying too much, mindfulness is much more difficult.
The first step in becoming more mindful is to recognize we want to change.
Once the intent is there, we can start to clear the clutter from our minds.
Making lists, journaling, and getting all the thoughts out of our heads and onto paper is a good first step.
Once we know what has been distracting us, we can start to address the list.
This also allows us to set the list aside for a bit and focus on the current life activities.
Start small seeking mindful moments on the weekend with family and friends.
Then, move on to other days, times, and activities.
Once the mind full feeling of overwhelm starts to subside, other mindful practices can be put in place.
Your Turn
Do you feel like you are more often mind full or mindful?
How do you remove the clutter from your mind – lists, journaling, or another approach?
What actions do you take to become more mindful?
