Last week, I wrote about 7-year cycles and my experiences with them.
The background of this idea ranges from philosophical to biological.
The beauty of the cycles is that it suggests life is not one long beginning, middle, and end.
Rather, we have multiple cycles of mini-beginnings, middles, and ends.
Opportunities for growth and renewal every 7 years.
“Unlike some who see life in a linear formation (you’re born, you work, you die) I believe our lives are made up of a series of cycles that bring opportunities for replenishment, rejuvenation and reinvention.” – Nilgin Yusuf
What I found interesting was that most published information tends to end at 49.
Focusing on the cycles of our early life.
We know that 50+ is a time of “harvest”, reflection, and wisdom.
Why does the published information not focus there?
We have so many beginnings left – 50, 57, 64, 71, 78, 85, 92, 99….
My Perspective
I think that we need more attention on cycles after age 50.
The early year cycles are obvious and well researched
Formation, puberty, learning to “adult”, and the family/career years.
After 50, there is less of a roadmap.
It’s all about retirement.
But what does that really mean?
If we considered 7-year cycles, the second half of our life could be richer.
While this can happen organically, the knowledge of cycles might change our perspective.
We could be more intentional on how our lives unfold.
Your Turn
Do you like the idea of mini cycles in life with a beginning, middle, and end?
Would this knowledge change how you look at your life?
If you could set a goal for the next 7 years, what would it be?
