I listened to an older episode of the Jay Shetty podcast titled “10 Proven Strategies to Boost Productivity & Create a Clear Plan for Achieving Your Goals”.
All 10 strategies were interesting, but there were 3 that really resonated for me.
Completion Mindset: This first concept he pulled from Cal Newport. Focus on completing something everyday vs. pushing multiple things forward.
Leverage our Senses: Jay suggested using sight, sound and smell to designate different spaces to create the environment for the activity we are doing. This one reminded me of Gretchen Rubin’s book Life in Five Senses.
To Start List: The final idea was to create a “to start” list instead of a “to do” list. The point was that the barrier to start something is lower and once we get going our completion mindset can kick in.
My Perspective
Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of different productivity techniques.
Some worked.
Some not so much.
I fall into the trap of having too many projects going at the same time.
The completion mindset is a technique I’m trying to incorporate more.
Finish something before starting something else.
And, when starting, using the idea of “start” instead of “to do” might be a better nudge.
I’m definitely going to give it a try.
Your Turn
What do you think about these three strategies?
Would any make sense to help you get more quality work done?
How could you leverage one of the techniques today?
