Last year, I embarked on what I called my 15-minute curation project.

The journey began with the post Start by Starting and was summarized at the end of the year with all my lessons in the post titled 15 Minute Project – Q4 Progress.

My intent was to take on some larger, daunting projects around the house.

I wanted to share the experience.

To highlight what can be accomplished in short bursts of time done consistently all year long.

15 minutes a day for a full year totals out to 5,475 minutes or 91.25 hours of time.

This birthday week has me reflecting on many things – including circling back to this project.

I was wondering without the same intention this year, what progress (if any) has been made.

My conclusion: Progress has been made, but not the same type or in the same way.

Q1 Curation

The first quarter was full of just one, larger non-work project – preparing for my daughter’s wedding.

Nearly every day there was something to be done.

Calls, fittings, purchases, appointments, and more.

I was her default wedding planner and enjoyed every minute of it.

The experience taught me a great deal and I could see myself playing this role for others.

Q2 Curation

The second quarter also had some big projects.

However, rather than 15-minues a day, they were completed in big, day-long chunks.

The other difference was that very few were making progress at our house.

I spent days at my daughter’s house clearing out kitchen cabinets, organizing closets, cleaning up outdoor spaces for summer, and spreading mulch.

There was a fun upcycling project refurbishing an old buffet into a cute coffee bar for her kitchen.

Other days were spent at my parent’s house doing similar things – cleaning closets, organizing, and reducing the overwhelm of spaces that had become overflowing.

Summary

While the first half of this year was a bit different, I realized I kept the curation project going.

Looking ahead to the second half of the year, I’m going to get back to my own home projects.

A list of what I want to tackle will be step #1 and then I’ll work to start checking things off the list.

Your Turn

Do you have larger, daunting projects at home?

Could you start to spend 15 minutes a day tackling one of them?

What could you accomplish in the 1,350 minutes – 22.5 hours – available in Q3?
