We’ve all likely heard of Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000-hour guide to mastery.
The theory is that it takes 10,000 hours to become proficient at something.
Suggesting that we need daily practice over a long period of time to learn.
My Perspective
I’ve started thinking about how this idea might be applied to a project.
What would happen if we shifted the hours to minutes.
10,000 minutes spread across 365 days of the year is 27.3 minutes a day.
In a year, those minutes become 166.7 hours.
Imagine what we could accomplish in that amount of time.
I’ve taken on 15-minute a day projects for a year and been amazed at what I achieved.
This challenge has me thinking about what the project(s) could be for next year.
I could pick just one.
Or I could think about the 8 dimensions of wellbeing.
Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Financial, Occupational, Intellectual, Social, Environmental
Do 2 challenges in two different dimensions.
The possibilities are endless.
Writing.
Photography.
Research.
Presentations.
Home Décor.
Organization.
Strength Training.
Calls & Notes to Friends and Family.
Meditation.
The new year represents a clean slate.
We can find 27 minutes a day to do something that matters to us.
Day by Day. Step by Step. One Shade Greener.
Your Turn
What will you choose to advance in the year ahead?
Which dimension of wellbeing would you choose for a focused project?
Could you break the goal down to work on for 27 minutes a day?
